Today I am off on the USBC’s bus trip to Viejas. Should be a fun day, even though I don’t really gamble. Maybe a few quarters in a slot machine. But the reason I am going is to spend the day with my friends. We will visit the shopping center that is right across the street (hey, a girls gotta shop) from the casino and have a great lunch together in the casino. So I urge you to think about going on future trips of this kind. Dorothy Southern used to run them. And we have been missing them and, also, the bloody marys she used to serve going and coming on the bus trip. I think the USBC might have some more bus trips up their sleeves in the future.
Speaking of the USBC, they are going to have a very special potluck coming up. On Saturday, May 15, the potluck will also commemorate the engagement of Linda Gaetan and Wayne Deniston. There will be champagne (and sparkling cider) to toast the couple and a really fun account of their very own love story. So please plan on joining in and toasting their future life together.
I am including the following because it is important to be knowledgeable on what is happening around us. So please start to be vigilant of your surroundings. Hopefully this will never happen again. This is what I found in my inbox Sunday morning:
CHARLY’S PLACE ROBBERY
The Charly’s place Restaurant K37.5 was robbed at gun point. Sunday Morning at approximately 1:00AM a popular restaurant and tourist attraction Charlys Place was assaulted by at least five masked gunmen. Witness accounts state that the gunmen entered through an upstairs entrance and closed all access and entrances of the restaurant. The gunmen then robbed the cash registers and all clients of the bar restaurant taking all their belongings including car keys and cell phones purses and wallets. No suspects have been detained. No injuries of patrons have been reported.”
Yes, the numbers are in now. Last Sunday on Craig’s birthday, he issued a goal of collecting 1,000lbs. of donated food. In fact he actually collected 1,080lbs. and far surpassed his goal. So thanks to all of you. That number is amazing.
This coming Thursday, June 6 at noon, the Baja Wordsmiths will be holding their monthly meeting. This month it will be held at El Gaucho Argentinean Grill. (Love their steak sandwiches) This is open to anybody that enjoys writing for any purpose. Alice Vernoux, author of many books and local resident, hosts the group and does an excellent job. So try something new.
